Different Mind

Different Mind

Don’t Think Like Everyone Else
We make around 35,000 choices every single day. Research says we spend about two hours a day just debating details. No wonder God tells us where to fix our thoughts!

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Have you ever gone against the flow in your thinking? Maybe you made a choice that confused others, but you knew in your spirit it was right.
That’s the call of a believer, not just to live differently, but to think differently.

The world shouts:
  • “Follow your heart.”
  • “Do what feels right.”
  • “Look out for yourself.”

But God’s Word says something very different in Romans 12:2

Don’t conform—Be transformed.

Big Idea: A changed mind creates a different life.

Romans 12:1-21
1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.  2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. 3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.  6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;  8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. 9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.  19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him;     if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.  In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

God doesn’t just want your behavior, He wants your mind renewed.
Why? Because when your thinking is transformed, your living will be too.
That’s why we can say with confidence: “Everything is going to be all right!”
God doesn’t want us stuck in stinking thinking. He wants us walking in a new mindset, shaped by His Spirit.

In Romans 12, Paul gives us a clear roadmap of what a renewed mind looks like. It’s a different mind, one that thinks, sees, and lives differently than the world around us.

1. A Mindset of Worship

Romans 12:1–2 says to “offer your bodies as a living sacrifice… be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Worship isn’t just a song, it’s a lifestyle. It’s not about living for likes, status, or trends. We are in this world, but we are not of it.

Colossians 3:1–5
Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.5 So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires.

Set our minds on the realities of heaven, not on earthly things. A lifestyle of worship means living as a daily sacrifice, choosing Christ over culture.
Where your mind dwells, your devotion will follow.

2. A Mindset of Humility & Purpose

Romans 12:3
3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

A renewed mind doesn’t compare—it contributes.
It doesn’t compete—it completes.

With a renewed mind, you stop chasing comparison and start walking in contribution. You see yourself as part of Christ’s body, using your gifts for His purpose.

Humility is not just an outward show—it’s a heart attitude. The Bible describes humility as meekness, lowliness, and the absence of self.

Colossians 3:12 says:
12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

The Greek word for humility literally means “lowliness of mind.” In other words, it’s not just how you act, it’s how you think. A person can look humble on the outside and still be full of pride on the inside.

That’s why Jesus said:
Matthew 5:3
God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for Him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

To be “poor in spirit” means admitting we are spiritually bankrupt without God. Only those who confess their total dependence on Him will inherit eternal life.
So humility isn’t optional, it’s essential. A mindset of humility leads to a heart-set of humility. And that is the posture God requires of every believer.

3. Is A Mindset of Constant Grace

Romans 12:21
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

The world says, “Get even.” God says, “Give grace.”
A transformed mind chooses love when it’s least expected. It blesses when cursed. It shows mercy when wronged. That kind of grace can only come from a renewed mind.

Living with constant grace:
  • Shapes our relationships.
  • Strengthens our community.
  • Reveals the footprints of His grace guiding our path.
  • Teaches us compassion and patience, urging us to extend grace as freely as we’ve received it.
  • Cultivates a heart of gratitude, helping us cherish even the smallest blessings God gives each day.

Colossians 3:16
Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom He gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.

Let God Change The Way You Think.

Transformation doesn’t happen overnight, but it starts with surrender.
This week:
  1. Start your day with Romans 12:2 and Ask God to renew your mind.
  2. Identify one worldly thought pattern (comparison, pride, revenge, etc.) and replace it with a kingdom mindset.
  3. Do one unexpected act of love or grace, show the mind of Christ in action.

Memory Verse:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” – Romans 12:2
What If?
What if we truly let God change the way we think? What if every believer lived with a different mind, a mindset of worship, humility, and constant grace?
The world would see not just different lives, but different souls, renewed and transformed by the Spirit of God.

Everything is going to be all right.
